A/Prof. Alexander Dobrovic

HEAD, TRANSLATIONAL GENOMICS AND EPIGENOMICS LABORATORY

More about A/Prof. Alexander Dobrovic

Medical research is an intellectually rewarding career and the greatest satisfaction comes from knowing our team has made a difference to patient management and outcomes.

Working as a scientist in a medical sphere has enabled me to build strong bridges to my clinical colleagues. This has resulted in numerous translations of methodologies from research into clinical practice.

My former lab at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre was the first in Australia to implement diagnostic testing of activating mutations in EGFR, KRAS, TP53 and BRAF that have become indispensable tests in lung cancer, colorectal cancer, leukaemia and melanoma respectively.

My current lab continues this research with a major focus on developing feasible approaches for the analysis of tissue and liquid biopsy samples from cancer patients to enable the implementation of precision medicine in which laboratory results guide the choice of appropriate treatment.

In 2016, our lab became NATA accredited and we are now offering an expanding range of testing services including DNA methylation testing, DNA mutation testing and digital PCR.
