    About the position

    The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI) has experienced significant growth since establishment in 2015, doubling in staff and student numbers and expanding research activities from 4 laboratories to 14. To provide our researchers with optimal support, we are seeking to recruit a passionate and experienced Assistant Laboratory Manager to work with the Laboratory & Facilities Manager in the efficient and effective management of the research facilities of the ONJCRI. This includes the areas of general laboratory support, chemical & biological safety, Workplace Health & Safety, Purchasing and Inventory Management. The Assistant Laboratory Manager will have the opportunity to identify risk and facilitate necessary change throughout the organisation, to ensure compliance and best practice is delivered.

    About you

    The successful candidate will have substantial experience in the operation and support of either laboratory facilities or manufacturing/production facilities in an industry with similar technical requirements, or may currently be a researcher who also has responsibility for management of their own lab area.

    This role will require someone with demonstrable organisational and time management skills and the ability to effectively negotiate and communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders. To excel in this role, you must have the ability to trouble shoot and think outside the box to problem solve in a timely manner. Sound knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and practices as well as purchasing systems such as Workplace Requisition is essential to ensure compliance and accurate purchasing/stores information.

    An understanding of complex instrumentation and technologies and the ability to manage the installation and maintenance of major equipment is desirable, as is some experience developing and delivering stakeholder education programs.
