Research Assistant - Metastasis Research Laboratory
Unique opportunity to liaise directly with patients currently undergoing breast cancer treatment in the clinic, as well as conduct translational research

About the position
The Research Assistant will be located in the Metastasis Research Laboratory (MRL) that operates under the umbrella of the highly regarded Breast Cancer Translational Program. MRL is involved in basic and preclinical research investigating the molecular basis of breast cancer metastasis and the development of novel targeted therapies to combat metastatic disease.
The Research Assistant will have two key accountabilities:
- Responsible for developing and maintaining organoid cultures for drug testing.
- Assist in collecting and processing tissue and blood samples from cancer patients, under the guidance of the breast oncologist.
To be considered for this role, you must have a science degree with Honours in a relevant scientific area such as pharmaceutical or biological sciences, and demonstrated lab experience in a research role. Experience in sterile tissue culture techniques, working with and handling mice, genotyping, cell culture, molecular biology, protein techniques (western blotting, PCR, gene overexpression or knockdown) are required. In addition experience in interaction with patients and processing samples from patients for subsequent genomic and histological analysis is also required.
The successful candidate must be self-motivated and enthusiastic, possess exceptional organisational and time management skills, and excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work both independently and within a team. The successful candidate should also have a meticulous approach to experimental work and the ability to accurately enter, process, store, retrieve and analyse data.
