Research Assistant - Tumour Progression and Heterogeneity Laboratory

About the position
The Research Assistant will be located in the Tumour Progression and Heterogeneity Laboratory within the Translational Breast Cancer Program, which aims to understand the biological properties of the most aggressive clones of breast cancer, in order to prevent their dissemination and design new combination therapies for the treatment of advanced disease.
Key responsibilities include:
- In vitro and in vivo work with cancer cell line and patient biopsies
- Basic Cell and Molecular Biology techniques (including PCR, cloning and RNA prep)
- Microtomy, immunohistochemistry and imaging
- Preparation and distribution of results
- Update and maintain databases
- Genotyping and documentation of transgenic mouse colonies
- General laboratory maintenance including purchasing, supply maintenance and animal usage documentation management
To be considered for this role, you must have a science degree (preferably with Honours) in a relevant scientific area such as pharmaceutical or biological sciences, and demonstrated lab experience in a research role. Experience in cell culture, molecular biology, protein techniques (western blotting, PCR, RNA and qPCR) as is experience in handling mice and monitoring and maintaining mouse colonies. Some experience with flow cytometry, multi-colour immunohistochemistry and/or immunofluorescence and lentiviral infections and viability assays would be considered advantageous.
The successful candidate must be self-motivated and enthusiastic, possess exceptional organisational and time management skills, and excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work both independently and within a team.
