Volunteering

Volunteers at the ONJ Centre are an important part of the team supporting our patients, carers and visitors. The volunteer's role is to enact the ONJ Centre vision statement “You Matter,” helping to make sure every patient, carer, relative and visitor feel that they are cared for. Whether it is a smile, a friendly chat, or providing information about programs and services, volunteers can easily help to ease some of the emotional stress and anxiety experienced by patients and their loved ones by providing practical and emotional support.

Volunteers at the ONJ Centre help to improve the hospital experience for patients and carers through support in roles such as:

  • Direct patient/carer support and companionship
  • Welcoming, providing directions and concierge services
  • Information access and support
  • Administration
  • Consumer engagement and committee membership

Volunteers work throughout the ONJ Centre in Day Oncology, Radiation Oncology, in our Palliative Care Unit, in the Wellness Centre and Information Lounge, and in waiting areas and public spaces. Volunteers work alongside and under the guidance of staff to help provide exceptional patient care.
