Dr David Lau awarded gastrointestinal cancer research fellowship

Gastrointestinal cancer researcher Dr David Lau has been awarded the inaugural Merck-AGITG Clinical Research Fellowship by the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group. The award gives David the opportunity to learn from GI cancer experts at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London in 2018.

David is a medical oncologist and researcher at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute. His research focuses on upper gastrointestinal and colorectal cancers.

David says, “I’m looking forward to working with experts in GI cancer such as Prof David Cunningham. The fight against cancer is a global effort. Whether we are exchanging ideas or recruiting patients to the same clinical trial, the benefits come quicker when we work together.

When I return from London I would like to continue my research with newly formed international and Australian collaborators to ultimately improve treatments and outcomes for patients with GI cancer.”

The Fellowship will see David and his family relocate to London for twelve months in 2018. The Royal Marsden Hospital is dedicated to cancer diagnosis, treatment, research and education. The Fellowship is awarded by the Australasian Gasro-Intestinal Trials Group (AGITG) and supported by Merck Biopharma.
