Rob's virtual walk for wellness to keep Olivia's legacy alive

Rob Moll lives thousands of kilometres away in Cape Town, South Africa and this year, he’s lacing up his shoes to join Olivia’s Walk and Run for Wellness virtually!

Rob, 84, is a retired schoolmaster and in his recent years, he has seen his fair share of challenges. In August 2022, just days after suffering a stroke, Rob learned of Olivia’s passing. At the time, he was still finding his voice again with the help of therapists who encouraged him to rebuild confidence and strength. Their care reminded him of something he would later come to recognise in Olivia’s own mission – the same spirit of compassion, hope, and encouragement that lives on today through the care and wellness therapies provided free of charge to all ONJ Centre patients.

Fast forward to December 2024, Rob’s wife of 58 years, Lyn, was admitted to a care facility after her dementia progressed. Shortly after, Rob was diagnosed with prostate cancer and began treatment. The only support available to him at this time was provided by his dear friend and neighbour, however Rob felt alone and spiritually adrift.

At this crucial point in his life, Rob found Olivia again. He turned to Olivia’s music, interviews and movies – watching every video and reading every article he could find – and in Olivia’s words, Rob found the hope he had been looking for.

“I was blown away by her words of upliftment and encouragement which I had been seeking all this time,” shares Rob. “In one interview she was asked to sum up her life in one word, to which she replied unhesitatingly - positivity. I found the words in her interviews filled with infectious optimism and so inspirational.”

He adds, “She exuded love, always looked for the good in people, showed determination and tenacity, and never gave up. She left us with so much, including the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre as her legacy, and I cannot wait to contribute to it.”

Rob is participating in Olivia’s Walk and Run for Wellness not just for himself, but for everyone who’s ever needed a little light in the dark.

You too can help continue Olivia’s legacy. Register for the walk or donate to the cause, and help us continue to bring love, light and transformative care to people living with cancer and their families. Walk with us on Sunday 5 October!
