Research Assistant

More about Dani Tutuka

Working in a research lab where we have the potential to translate our research from laboratory to bedside had always been a dream job of mine. As a research assistant, I strongly believe that only through research can we apply the knowledge of the natural world for the betterment of the human condition.

I have been a research assistant for nine years starting my humble beginning in molecular microbiology; essentially studying bugs. It was not until 2013 when I joined Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute in the Cancer Immuno-Biology laboratory headed by Prof Jonathan Cebon, where my passion in biological science was reinvigorated.

My main task in the laboratory is to process blood samples acquired from cancer patients. From these biological records we are hoping to unlock the secret information that may help us determine factors that may lead to successful treatment outcome or vice versa. My other main task is to process resected tumour samples acquired from surgery and establish a stable cell line which will allow us to do in vitro research. This may help us to determine how a cancer cell functions and behaves.

Ever since I started falling in love with science, my aspiration had always been to be involved in a work that could make an impact and have an improvement on the human condition. That is the main driving passion that drives me to do the work I do now.
