More about Dr Michael Buchert

I love working in Science because it allows me to discover and understand. It shows me things I would never know, or be able to know without it and hopefully it will allow me to make a small difference in people’s lives.

Hailing from Switzerland, I arrived in Australia in 1999 for my first postdoctoral studies at the Department of Surgery of the Royal Melbourne Hospital. In 2002 I moved back to Europe for an additional postdoc. My second coming to Australia was in 2007, when I joined the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research Parkville as an Assistant Investigator. In 2012, I moved to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute and in 2015 I joined the ONJCRI as a Senior Research Fellow, where I lead my own small research team within the Cancer and Inflammation lab of Matthias Ernst. My team is investigating the utility of Jak inhibitors to target colorectal tumours and the role of DCLK1 as a driver of gastric cancer.
