Stefan Bader

PHD CANDIDATE

More about Stefan Bader

I am strongly committed to cancer research, with my main interests laying at the interface of basic cancer research, cancer immunotherapy and cancer nanomedicine.

I am a 3rd-year PhD Candidate at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI) in Heidelberg, VIC, Australia. The ONJCRI is the School of Cancer Medicine at La Trobe University and, as part of Austin Health, also a member of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC).

I studied technical biology and technical business administration at The University of Stuttgart (UoS) and hold a degree (German Diploma, equivalent to a 5-year Bachelor + Master degree) from UoS. During my studies, I completed a research internship and seminar paper in the department of New Biological Entities (NBE) at Boehringer Ingelheim in Biberach/Riss, Germany, where I investigated treatment options for chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD). I completed my Diploma Thesis in early 2015 in the department of Biomedical Engineering at UoS analyzing various antibody-fusion proteins for targeted cancer immunotherapy. After completing my degree at UoS, I conducted a research internship at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia, where I undertook research at the KAUST Catalysis Centre (KCC).

In late 2016 I commenced my PhD project, which is a collaboration between breast cancer experts from ONJCRI and cancer nanomedicine specialists from the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) and the ARC Centre of Excellence in Bio-Nano Science (CBNS). The multi-disciplinary project includes investigating a nanoparticle-based drug delivery system for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer. During the project, I will be based both at MIPS and ONJCRI in order to conduct the chemical work, in vitro experiments (MIPS/CBNS) and in vivo studies (ONJCRI).

I am also part of the Comprehensive Cancer PhD Program (CCPhD), where I provide insights into various different disciplines of cancer research.
